What exactly happens when I pick a template?

You answer questions in plain English — “who is renting”, “how much is the rent” — and the finished document builds itself next to the form as you type. Nothing to download, install or format. When the preview looks right, you export it as a PDF and an editable Word file.

Do I have to sign up before I can start?

No. Browsing and filling out a document need no account at all. Your email is asked for once, at the end, when you save and download — that is what ties the finished document to you so you can find it again later.

What if I close the tab halfway through?

Your answers are saved as you go, and the page URL is the link back to that exact draft. Bookmark it, or reopen the template later and choose “continue” instead of starting over. If you have confirmed your email, the draft is also waiting under “My documents”.

I started the wrong document — can I switch?

Yes. Just open the template you actually need and fill it out; answers do not transfer between different documents, because each one asks for different things. The abandoned draft costs you nothing and can be ignored.

Why is every document free?

Legal Pact is in its beta period. Every template is free while we put them in front of real users and fix what does not hold up. In exchange we ask for one thing: a working email address, so we can send you the document and, occasionally, ask what did not work.

Do I need to enter a card?

No. There is no card field anywhere in the beta, so there is no trial that quietly starts charging you. If a page ever asks you for card details, it is not us.

What happens when the beta ends?

Documents will start costing a small one-time price per document — you will see it before you begin, and you will never be enrolled in a subscription. Anything you downloaded during the beta stays yours and stays free to download again.

Is there a subscription or a hidden fee?

No, and there is not going to be one. The model is one payment for one document, whenever you happen to need one. No memberships, no auto-renewals, nothing to cancel.

Who writes the templates?

Every template is drafted and reviewed by licensed attorneys, then kept up to date as laws change. Each one is built to meet standard legal requirements.

Does the document match my state’s rules?

Where state law changes what a document must say, the questionnaire asks for your state and adapts the clauses — that is why some questions appear only after you pick a location. For anything unusual or high-stakes, have a local attorney read the finished document.

The questions don’t cover a term I need. What now?

Export the Word file and add the clause yourself — the file is fully editable, with the formatting intact. The questionnaire deliberately covers the standard cases rather than asking forty questions nobody needs.

What files do I actually get?

A print-ready PDF and an editable Word (.docx) file, both with your answers already in place. Take the PDF straight to signing, or open the Word file if you still want to change the wording.

Can I use a US template for a deal in another country?

Not safely — the wording follows US law and US conventions. Switch to the country edition you need (the picker sits at the bottom of any page); each country has its own set of templates written for it.

Can I change the document after I download it?

Two ways. Edit the Word file on your own computer, or reopen the document here, change your answers and export a fresh copy. While the beta lasts and all documents are free, you can come back and re-edit as often as you like.

How do I find a document I made last month?

Sign in with the same email you used when you filled it out — documents are tied to that address, and they appear under “My documents”. Sign-in needs no password: you request a one-time link and click it.

If the template is updated, does my document update too?

Accepted Answer

No — a document you generated is a snapshot of the template as it was that day, which is what you want for something already signed. To pick up improvements, reopen the document and export it again.

How do we actually sign it?

Print the PDF and sign on paper, or run it through whatever e-signature service you already use — the PDF is a normal file and works with all of them. There is no signing built into Legal Pact, so nothing is signed just because you downloaded it.

Do I need a witness or a notary?

It depends on the document and your state — leases and NDAs usually need neither, while deeds, wills and powers of attorney often do. Where formalities apply, the document says so and includes the right signature blocks; follow them exactly, or the document may not hold.

Are these documents legally valid?

Yes — they are attorney-drafted and built to meet standard legal requirements, and a correctly filled-in, correctly signed document binds the parties like any other. What can invalidate one is your input, not the template: wrong names, missing signatures, terms that your state does not allow.

Is this legal advice?

No. Legal Pact is a self-help service, not a law firm, and using it creates no attorney–client relationship. Nobody reviews your individual answers. If the stakes are high or your situation is unusual, pay an attorney for an hour of review — see our Terms of service.

Who can see what I type into a document?

Accepted Answer

Nobody but you. Your answers are encrypted, are used only to build your document, and are never sold or shared for advertising — we run no ad trackers and no third-party analytics. The details are in our Privacy policy.

Can I get my documents and data deleted?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Email us from the address on your account and we delete your documents and answers — no forms, no fee. Records we are legally required to keep for accounting are the only exception.

Question 23

My sign-in link never arrived.

Accepted Answer

Check spam first, and check that you used the same address as last time. Links expire after 15 minutes and work once, so an old one in your inbox will not open — request a fresh link from the sign-in screen. Signing in with Google works too, and skips email entirely.
